| CANPOL In Action |
| Championing peace and reconciliation in Indonesia, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) sought experts for a 2003 project aimed at advancing community policing and human rights in the Indonesian police. CANPOL worked with the IOM to identify Canadian candidates with the depth of knowledge and field experience needed. The right fit was found within a week. |

Registering with CANPOL
CANADEM’s roster, funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, includes a key unit composed of police experts.
In addition to proven police and/or security sector reform expertise, CANPOL registrants must have well-honed interpersonal skills – flexibility, teamwork, cultural and gender sensitivity – as well as the ability to think on one’s feet. To shine, registrants must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the experience to gauge and address unexpected challenges. International experience is highly desirable.
CANPOL acts as a matchmaker for the UN and other international agencies – identifying exceptional Canadian candidates for specific postings. Once you are registered, CANPOL uses your skills profile and resume to determine whether you are the ideal match for a position. Although everyone registered with CANPOL has valuable skills and work experience, contracts are not guaranteed. Competition for positions can be strong.
